Why are you committed to ending extreme poverty?
I have had the wonderful opportunity of putting together an exhaustive list of why people are committed to ending extreme poverty; creating this list has been so enjoyable that I just have to share these reasons.
What initiated as an individual creative session turned into a brainstorm across our core team, our global team of volunteers and our friends. It has been an absolute inspiration to find out the reason why people are committed to extreme poverty.
Here are the best which I want to share:
"because seeing fellow humans dying unnecessarily rips my heart out."
"because I don't want to leave the problem for my children to deal with, instead I want to show poverty to them in museums."
"because I can."
"because 1.4 billion people have asked me to."
"because it is NOT OK that a person dies every 3 and a half seconds due to hunger."
"because it just doesn't make any sense... seriously when it boils right down to it, it's not about fair or unfair... its not about guilt... its not about gluttony... it's not about rich or poor... it's about doing something because I can. I should. And most importantly - I will."
"because no human being; no matter their age, ethnicity, gender or beliefs, should ever suffer the pain and deprivation of extreme poverty."
"because losing 27,000 children each day to preventable causes is something that should never have to happen, not in this day and age."
So that is what inspires us.
